Carlisle Arts Learning Center (CALC)

Responsibilities: Web Development, Web Design

The Carlisle Arts Learning Center (CALC) is truly an arts organization on the move. In early 2013 they moved to a new physical location that will afford greater expansion--more classes and more exhibit spaces. In tough and stressful economic times it continues to grow and thrive. The goal of CALC's web redesign was to visually align its virtual space with its new beautiful, multifunctional physical space. The new site features a full-featured e-commerce area for managing class enrollment and ticketed special events. CALC's site also supports mobile and smartphone visitors by delivering its content responsively--pages automatically conform to the screen size of the device accessing the site.

Robert Mitchell Photography

Responsibilities: Web Design, Web Development

Robert Mitchell and I relaunched his professional photography site, "Robert Mitchell Photography" (http://www.mitchellphoto.com/) in early summer 2013. The site is optimized for all screens, or "responsive", which means the site "auto-magically" recomposes to fit different size screens--smartphones, tablets, desktops, etc. If you are interested in creating a "responsive" site for your organization or business please don't hesitate to contact gbmediadesign. Lastly, Robert Mitchell produces a gorgeous calendar (designed by gbmediadesign!) every year featuring his photographs culled from the greater Boothbay Harbor, ME area. Check his site out, where the calendar is prominently featured, and if you are interested in ordering a calendar, feel free to do so using the site's e-commerce service.

I, Horatio: A Novel of Historical Fiction"

Responsibilities: book cover design

Over a year ago, I was invited by friend and author, Don Tortorice, to design the cover of his book, "I, Horatio", a first person historical novel about the life of Lord Horatio Nelson. Don is a terrific friend and working with him on his book project has been a blast. As Don describes, "this book is the first presentation of the life of Horatio Nelson to be narrated in the first person, a recounting of his life in his own words." After a few initial meetings and discussions, it was clear to both of us the design direction the cover needed to take and over the course of a few months of back and forths, we finished the cover design. Of course, finishing the cover was only one part of the greater project. Writing the novel (Don's part), editing (more Don), and then finding and securing a publisher (Don, again), takes way more time. I am happy to report the book has a publisher, *is* published(!), and available for purchase on Amazon as well as other fine literary establishments. Congratulations, Don! I have included an image of the cover here.

Penn Lectures in Judaic Studies 2014: Logo

Responsibilities: Logo Design

gbmediadesign was contracted to create the logo for the annual lecture series at the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies. The series theme for 2014, "Moving into Modernity: The Shaping of Jewish Culture in Early Modern Europe" provided rich visual material to consider for the circular icons central to the logo's design. Typographically, it harkens back to type reminiscent of early book printing.
